To keep what we have-we have to change

Good morning, Harbor Springs! This is it. One more day to go!

This is my 120th graphic, the 43rd Nubbins outfit, and my 197th post since starting this effort on July 20th. Whew. It has been a ride.

To anyone who is still undecided, please continue to share this story from Interlochen Public Radio about our choice: https://www.interlochenpublicradio.org/.../harbor-springs...

Remember, this is OUR choice. The people who call Harbor Springs home. Yes, there have been some who have changed their registration just to vote on this modest zoning code change. And yes, tens of thousands of dollars has been spent to overturn the decisions and hard work of our friends and neighbors. And no, it really didn't have to be this way.

But it is in our hands. How we move on is also in our hands.

There are those who don't want Harbor Springs to change. And I absolutely get that. It is an amazing and charming place to live and visit. But, here is the thing: If we want Harbor Springs to stay like it is, it will need to change.

We are losing full-time residents. Our population is aging. We need larger and more stable class sizes to maintain our fantastic schools. To keep our charming town vibrant, we need to take action. Doing nothing and hoping for the best is not a plan.

Ultimately, that is what the new zoning code is. A piece of a plan that looks forward rather than back. On this last day, I urge you to support your neighbors and vote "NO" to keep our new code and move on.
