If I had a hammer
Good morning Harbor Springs! We are less than 30 days out from Election Day! Most of us have day jobs and volunteer our time in support of the candidates and causes we support when we can. This year, perhaps more than others, many of us are putting in the extra effort to support our democracy and city.
We aren't big developers and are not involved in some down-state conspiracy about the whole thing. Frankly, you'd need one of those pin-boards and string like in the movies to track some of the theories about the new code. Unfortunately, for some, this election has become all about shadowy motives and distrust. We are reminded of the old saying: "When all you have is a hammer, everything seems like a nail."
We have tried to make our motives clear from the very start of this project-we trust and support our neighbors and the work they did to help improve our city.
Do we totally think we are funnier than we are? You bet. Are we earnest in our commitment to our neighbors? Absolutely.
We are just regular taxpaying, snow shoveling, pumpkin bowling residents of this quaint little town. We only have one house and we know we are lucky it is in Harbor Springs. We send the kids to school and cheer them on at games (too loudly they say). We visit our friends to celebrate birthdays and drop of food when we know they are struggling. We aren't perfect but we are honest and try to acknowledge when we get something wrong.
There is nothing wrong with the new zoning code or the people who worked their tails off over the last two years working to get it right. We are proud to support them!
If you have questions, please visit www.votenoharborsprings.org for factual and honest answers about the new zoning code.
Lot's more snappy content to come this week. We started this thing because we love Harbor Springs too. Thanks for indulging us a bit this morning and for all you do to make Harbor Springs a great place to call home.
