Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all you sweethearts of Harbor Springs!

In honor of this day of romance, join me on a trip down memory lane. Back to a warmer time when we were receiving love notes in our mailboxes (nearly every day) about the zoning issue.

I have heard a few question why we need to rewrite the zoning code. I feel like we have missed one BIG reason why we should be working through this process: It is exactly what we were promised was going to happen if we repealed the code.

Yep! Those sweet postcards we got last fall said:

  • "Let's get the zoning right. Join hundreds of Voters in voting yes to Repeal and Improve"

  • "To protect the future of Harbor Springs, we must first repeal the current zoning ordinance. By voting YES, we can bring back the community's voice in shaping our town."

  • A vote Yes on the repeal of Ordinance 439 will return the city to the original zoning code as of April 2024. We now have the opportunity to improve the zoning code."

  • "A Yes vote will return the zoning code to the old zoning code and allow for a new code to be written with community input."

We couldn't agree more!

As anyone who has been in a relationship knows, it is important to keep your promises. Trust is key. It is also important to follow through and do what you said you were going to do.

Let's take some time to celebrate the progress we have made together. The "We Love Harbor Springs" and the "We Love Harbor Springs Too" groups are both now strolling the same path, hand in hand. Both groups, now in blissful agreement that we need to rewrite our zoning code for a better future. It is lovely.

We ALL love Harbor Springs. It is a good day to embrace that. If you get a chance, give someone a smile, a hug or a high-five today.

Happy Valentine's Day!
