Hall of Fame Rams!
Hey there from the shores of Little Traverse Bay! After breaking up and floating out, the ice this morning was shore-to-shore in the harbor. There is even quite a bit of ice out on the bay. Water temp (from our friends at Irish) is right at 32 degrees. We've had days upon days of snow. Great for the hills! Sixty plus inches so far for the winter. For those of us who don't have a snow removal service, what's been good for Nubs has been rough on our backs.
I saw a comment on a photo taken this week of downtown Harbor that lamented it wasn't a prettier photo. The snow on the roadsides is gross looking after so many days of salt, crud, and slush. What was pretty when it fell is looking a bit brown.
Our little town is not Brigadoon. We don't appear from the mist in late May and return to the ether on Labor Day. No, we are a year round city.
And in this year round city, tonight we get to celebrate some graduates who brought glory to Harbor Springs on the track, pitch and hill! Tonight at 6:30pm in between the basketball games at the gym, the Harbor Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will be inducted.
Coach of Rams' Track for 25 years and State Champion thrower, Fred Troup, will be enshrined for his skill, craft, and gentle leadership of the team.
Kalie Grambeau joins the Hall of Fame as one of Harbor's most accomplished athletes. Named to All-State ski and soccer teams all four years of her high school career, Kalie brought home three individual state skiing titles, four team skiing state tiles, two soccer regional titles and lead the team to a state final game.
Also inducted tonight will be the 1987 Girls Ski Team. They were the first ski team in Harbor Springs history to win a State Championship. At the time Harbor Springs was the smallest school ever to win the title and had to compete against all the big schools to get it done. This legendary team was led by coaches Bill Shepler, Brewster McVicker and Doug Beer with athletes Debbie Fischer, Mandy Baker, Lisa Brady, Lesley Fischer, Ashley Andreae, Barb Todd, Lissa Witty, and Ellen Wilderom.
Congrats to all the inductees!
