Champion City!

Hi there! I want to take a moment to shine some light on the talented young people that call our community home.

Just a few examples to be proud of:

Both the Harbor Springs High School and Harbor Springs Middle School bands earned "1s" (the highest rating) at festival this spring. If you haven't heard them play, they have a concert on April 30th. It is remarkable how great they sound.

For months, Harbor Springs students have been working their tails off on stage to get ready for Momma Mia this weekend (Friday and Saturday at 7, Sunday at 2). Tickets at Between the Covers It is going to be amazing!

Our busy students take the time to organize successful fundraisers for their teams so they can travel to compete. (Remember the fundraiser at Otis Harbor Springs for the Senior Class at 5pm Saturday)

Ram athletes ache during dry-land practice in the off season so they can hoist trophies to close it all out.

From Robotics to Band, Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, Skiing, and in the classroom our kids are Champions. We should be proud of all their hard work and dedication. (Monday, I took the above picture of the trophies the Rams have won this year-a pretty impressive haul!)

This Saturday, lots of us will gather at Nubs for the annual Mardi Gras celebration. Together we will toast a fantastic winter season (the hills will be open until the first weekend in April this year) and shake off the winter blues with some good-hearted silliness and beer. Hope to see you there! (The Soaker Cup is at 2:30pm)

The last few weeks, I have been trying to show how much more our community is than zoning codes by highlighting some of the other great stuff going on in Harbor Springs. It might seem a bit like an events calendar, but it is important not to lose sight of ALL the things that make us a community.

For those of us lucky enough to live here year round-it has been a lot of shoveling this winter, but there is so much to be proud of. I think we have turned the corner on the zoning code-but we've done so much more.

As we start to thaw out, I hope we can celebrate our progress and maybe take a deep breath, look around and take in how much better things are when we aren't so angry.

There is just too much to enjoy up here to spend so much time being upset. Everything happening this week is a heck of a reminder of that simple fact.

Be proud of yourselves Harbor Springs! Go Rams!
